I had my followup appointment with my doctor's office today and got my staples removed. Everything looks fine, I'm still sore at the site of the surgery and I get exhausted really easily. I'm processing a lot about this experience which is adds to the exhaustion. But my recovery seems to be going really well.
I am taking the situation seriously as it was laid out by my surgeon as a very serious situation, and I am being very careful with my recovery and my health. Right now I am on a strictly vegan diet that is very low fat, eating several small meals a day, and never allowing myself to get too hungry so I don't eat too much at one time. This is pretty much how I eat anyway but I have really restricted my diet down to more of a cleansing diet right now as I allow my digestive system to recover.
My surgeon said my liver and stomach looked really good for someone my age so I must have been doing something right. I have been focusing a lot more in recent years on liver and digestive support, partly out of some knowledge about my physical condition and partly out of an intuitive urge. My diet right now is consisting of non-citrus fruit, green veggies (except anything in the broccoli/cabbage family as they can cause gas), and I am working a little rice into my diet. So far so good, everything seems to be getting back on track to normal functioning really well.
One recipe that I use as a great cleanse and all around digestive support is the Green Veggie recipe I have posted here before and share below.
Green Veggies Recipe
Ingredients:
One bunch parsley (if pureeing do a rough chop before cooking, otherwise chop it up good)
3 medium zucchini (or two small and one large, the equivalent of 3 medium)
½ lb. green beans
5 stalks celery
Sea salt (optional)
Cooking directions:
Steam together for 8-10 minutes, or partially steam and boil in ½ cup water. If you have a steamer, you retain more nutrients and flavor with that method. If you plan on pureeing: cool, then puree in blender or food processor.
The original recipe doesn’t call for salt but I add a bit of iodized sea salt to mine, just a little bit is fine, so you don’t overwhelm the taste of the vegetables.
